Alberta Health Services – Research

Alberta Health Services (AHS) is Canada’s first and largest province-wide, fully-integrated health system, responsible for delivering health services to the over four million people living in Alberta, as well as to some residents of Saskatchewan, B.C. and the Northwest Territories. AHS programs and services are offered at over 650 facilities throughout the province, including hospitals, clinics, continuing care facilities, cancer centres, mental health facilities and community health sites.   The province also has an extensive network of community-based services designed to assist Albertans maintain and/or improve health status.

As Alberta’s largest provider of care, AHS partners with Alberta’s universities, funders and others to enable frontline teams to test ideas and adopt them. By integrating research and innovation into the delivery of care, AHS can nurture health research breakthroughs, innovations and new knowledge to the point where they generate tangible, real world clinical value.

Alberta Innovates

Alberta Innovates is building on Alberta’s strengths in health, environment, energy, food, fibre and emerging technologies and is partnering with organizations to improve health and clinical research across the province. Managed by Alberta Innovates, the Alberta Clinical Research Consortium (ACRC) initiative aims to build capacity, increase efficiency and streamline the set-up and conduct of clinical health research in Alberta.

Baycrest

Baycrest Health Sciences is a global leader in geriatric residential living, healthcare, research, innovation and education, with a special focus on brain health and aging. BC Cancer Agency (BC Cancer Research Institute-BCRI)

The BC Cancer Agency, an agency of the Provincial Health Services Authority, provides a province-wide, population-based cancer control program for the residents of British Columbia and the Yukon. The Agency accepts patients who have been diagnosed with cancer and are referred by a physician. The BC Cancer Agency’s mandate covers the spectrum of cancer care, from prevention and screening, to diagnosis, treatment, and through to rehabilitation. The BC Cancer Agency’s mandate is driven by a three-fold mission:

  • To reduce the incidence of cancer
  • To reduce the mortality rate of people with cancer
  • To improve the quality of life of people living with cancer

This mission drives everything we do, including providing screening, diagnosis and care, setting treatment standards, and conducting research into causes of, and cures for, cancer.
