Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care in Penetanguishene, Ontario, is a 301-bed academic psychiatric hospital that specializes in mental health, addictions, geriatrics, and forensic psychiatry. Founded in 1904 and affiliated with the University of Toronto, it is the only high‑secure forensic mental health facility in Ontario. Through its embedded Waypoint Research Institute (WRI)—operational since 2013—it leads applied research in areas such as forensic mental health, youth resilience, intimate partner violence, digital interventions, and knowledge translation, while training students and collaborating nationally and internationally.
