The University of Manitoba, founded in 1877, is Western Canada’s first university and a member of the U15 research-intensive group. Serving over 30,000 students across campuses—including Fort Garry and Bannatyne—U of M maintains a research portfolio of nearly US$900 million, with global impact in areas such as health sciences, agriculture, Indigenous scholarship, and neurotechnology. Notable achievements include the development of canola oil and Manitoba’s creation of the world-famous Bisons athletic program.
