Institut et hôpital neurologiques de Montréal (MNI)

The Montreal Neurological Institute–Hospital (MNI), commonly known as The Neuro, is a world-renowned academic hospital and research centre dedicated to neuroscience, clinical care, and open science. Founded in 1934 by Dr. Wilder Penfield and affiliated with McGill University, it is Canada’s first integrated research-teaching hospital for brain health. With 85 beds and a broad spectrum of clinical programs, The Neuro offers specialized care in neurosurgery, neurology, epilepsy, neuro-oncology, stroke, movement disorders, ALS, and multiple sclerosis.

The Neuro is home to North America’s largest neuroscience graduate program and the McConnell Brain Imaging Centre, which features Canada’s first 7T MRI and multimodal imaging platforms. As a pioneer of open science, it launched the Tanenbaum Open Science Institute in 2016—becoming the first academic neuroscience institute globally to adopt fully open-access policies for data, samples, and publications, to accelerate discovery for patient benefit  .

Its Clinical Research Unit oversees more than 110 trials annually—including around a dozen Phase I studies focused on rare or terminal neurological diseases—reinforcing The Neuro’s position as a leading hub for neuroscience clinical research in Canada
