Inclusive Practices in Race Data Collection

Description: Participants will review concepts of race and the socio-cultural implications of collecting race-based data. This will ensure a foundational understanding of the language of race that can be communicated to research participants in an accessible and inclusive way. Through scenario-based exercises, participants will develop best practices for interactions with diverse research participant populations when collecting race-based data.

Workshop Objectives:

  1. Understand the ethical and socio-cultural implications of demographic data collection.
  2. Identify common pitfalls and biases in demographic data collection.
  3. Learn inclusive best practices for engaging diverse research participants in answering demographic questions.
  4. Explore real-world examples and apply culturally sensitive data collection techniques.
  5. Develop strategies for responsible and transparent data usage.
  6. Engage diverse populations in a respectful and meaningful way.
