Her research focuses on interventions to improve biopsychosocial outcomes in pediatric healthcare\, with a strong emphasis on co-producing knowledge through meaningful patient engagement. She is the co-creator of Voxe\, and her work is supported by national and international funding bodies including CIHR\, Health Canada\, and The Kidney Foundation of Canada. \nSarah Pol\, MSc\nSarah Pol is a Clinical Research Project Manager in the Anthony Lab at The Hospital for Sick Children. She holds a Master of Science in Global Health from McMaster University and additional training in Project Management from the University of Toronto. As the User Experience and Implementation Lead for Voxe\, she plays a key role in the clinical rollout of the platform as part of the Mental Health Measurement-Based Care initiative. Drawing on more than 20 years of experience in health and education research\, Susan has a strong track record in translating complex findings into practical\, accessible formats for diverse audiences. \nSusan began her research career in the pharmaceutical industry as a Quality Systems Trainer and Compliance Associate\, where she led regulatory audits\, quality investigations\, and large-scale training initiatives. She later joined McMaster University Medical Centre’s Departments of Pediatrics and Medicine as a Clinical Research Associate\, managing multi-site clinical trials and patient education programs in nutrition\, metabolism\, bone health\, and rheumatology. In this role\, she coordinated research protocols\, ethics submissions\, participant recruitment\, data collection\, and dissemination—working closely with physicians\, researchers\, patients\, and families. \nHer academic credentials include a PhD in Education\, a Master’s in Leadership and Administrative Education\, and a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry. She has also completed post-doctoral research in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Western University\, focusing on caregiver education in dementia care. \nSusan’s professional expertise is complemented by her lived experience as the mother of a Canadian Armed Forces Veteran. This personal connection fuels her commitment to ensuring equitable access to research participation and health innovations for military and Veteran families. \n  \nNora Spinks is the CEO of Work-Life Harmony\, a consulting firm focused on expediting the translation of research into practice to help individuals achieve and maintain well-being and quality of life—regardless of age\, life stage\, or work and family experience. \nFrom 2011 to 2021\, Nora served as CEO of the Vanier Institute of the Family. During her tenure\, she co-hosted a Families in Canada Roundtable with the Governor General\, Canada’s Commander-in-Chief\, which helped catalyze national attention on Military and Veteran Families. She co-chaired roundtables and co-hosted conferences and strategy sessions with the Ministers of Defence and Veterans Affairs\, the Chief of Defence\, the Chief of Military Personnel Command\, and the Director of Military Family Services (MFS). \nNora established the Award for Excellence in Military and Veteran Families Research and initiated an annual Military and Veteran Roundtable held at the CIMVHR Forum. She has collaborated with numerous military and civilian organizations to support Military and Veteran families across Canada. \nCurrently\, she chairs the Minister of Veterans Affairs Family Advisors Group and serves as an advisor to the Garnet Families Initiative\, the Military Family Research Group at Queen’s University\, and the Advisory Group for the Military Family Research Institute at Purdue University.

DESCRIPTION:At the end of this presentation\, participants will:\n\n\n\nGain an appreciation for multi-site trial management \n\n\nUnderstand the advantages of working with a trial network \n\n\nLearn skills necessary for protocol development and trial implementation \n\n\nRecognize the impact of clinical trials on patient care and public health \n\n\n\nMeet the Speakers\n  \nTannis Erickson \nRecently retired from the Children’s Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba (CHRIM)\, Tannis most recently served as Executive Director of the Research Support Unit and the Innovative Pediatric Clinical Trials Network. In these roles\, she led the implementation of numerous pediatric research projects\, including many clinical trials\, and collaborated with the University of Manitoba\, Manitoba Shared Health\, and provincial and national counterparts. Tannis has also been active on local and national committees\, including many under the Maternal Infant Child and Youth Research Network (MICYRN). \nDr. Naveen Poonai \nDr. Poonai completed his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Toronto in 2004\, followed by paediatric residency and emergency medicine fellowship training at Western University in 2009. He later earned his Master of Science in Health Research Methodology from McMaster University. He is currently a Professor in the Departments of Paediatrics and Epidemiology & Biostatistics at Western University\, Chair of the Children’s Health & Therapeutics Division of the Children’s Health Research Institute\, and Chair of Western University’s Health Sciences Research Ethics Board. Nationally\, he serves as Vice-Chair of Pediatric Emergency Research Canada (PERC) and Decision Editor for the Canadian Journal of Emergency Medicine. \nDr. Poonai’s research focuses on procedural sedation and acute pain management in children. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles and delivered more than 20 invited presentations in six countries. DESCRIPTION:N2 is pleased to share an upcoming workshop hosted by Clinical Trials Ontario (CTO)\, focused on enhancing participant experiences in clinical trials. \nThis initiative began in late 2019 and led to the launch of CTO’s Participant Experience Toolkit in Fall 2020—an evolving resource designed to support more inclusive\, respectful\, and patient-centered trial practices. \nCTO is now developing a new section of the toolkit focused on decentralized and hybrid clinical trials\, informed by research conducted with their College of Lived Experience.
