About N2

Brief Description of Network of Networks

N2 is a national initiative that brings together multiple existing disease networks, universities, institutions, sponsorsĀ and other stakeholders willing to join forces to enhance Canada’s research capability and capacity.

The Network of Networks (N2) was formed because clinical researchers face common challenges in their quest to conduct world class research. N2 provides the opportunity to speak to clinical research issues with one voice and offers a forum to develop and share tools, resources and best practices.

The two cornerstones of clinical research are the protection of human subjects and the integrity of the data collected. N2′s preliminary activities are focusing on the creation and distribution of the training and quality assurance that will raise the national standard for the conduct of research. These tools will support the investigators and research staff in their effort to demonstrate the accountability critical to clinical research.

Currently N2 membership includes many networks that represent more than 200 clinical research sites across multiple therapeutic areas; several academic teaching institutions, the Canadian Institute for Health Research – the federal funding body for health research in Canada; and the Research Ethics Web-Based Education Group, an organization with a focus on education in the area of research ethics. Having one organization acting on behalf of all these groups and striving for operational and fiscal efficiencies will provide benefits that will ultimately reach Canadians.

N2 is a membership organization. Membership in N2 will provide access to networking opportunities with colleagues, and sharing of best practices tools such as an on-line Clinical Research Education and Good Clinical Practices (GCP) training program, information on contract negotiations, web links, a national set of Standard Operating Procedures, reviewed annually and attendance at an annual meeting. Access to materials through N2 is more economical than purchasing them individually. Additional tools will become available in the future.
